Dave's
Hybrid Landys

The Series I Hybrid.

Dave has a 1956 Series I 86", which he has owned for about 10 years.
The Series 1 was used for transport to work ,caravan tug (Very exciting no power for the hills no brakes for the descents) and general dogsbody.
A modern car does this work now.
This series 1 has an original chassis including original rear crossmember and the first owner was a Worcestershire farmer.
The original registration number was RAB 451, which was transferred from the vehicle in 1988.
He did use it for trialing in the early days, but it's now not used much.
It was converted to series III running gear, with the 2.25 Diesel engine.
It has a series IIa gearbox, LWB front axle, overdrive and capstan winch.

The Series III/90 Hybrid.

Dave has had this Series III/90 hybrid for about 5 years.
He bought the 90 as an unfinished project with the series panels already on.
The 90 chassis has been shortened to 88".
The vehicle is formidable off-road and handles and goes really well on road.
The machine is fitted with the Range Rover 3.5 V8 engine and ZF 4 speed automatic gearbox with LPG conversion.
It's fitted with a rear roll cage and bucket seats.

He also has a 1961 series II, which is fitted with a 3.5 early Range Rover V8 with vitesse heads and cam.
He finds the extra power causes major problems with the diffs.
It has an original Land Rover hydraulic winch.
It's now used for tree pulling in the garden and as a tug for his Sankey Trailer (it's the only one he can get under the height barrier at the tip).
