Details

Most of the cherry pickers shown on this page were built by Leicestershire company Allan Access Limited, which built Land Rover based units for some years.

Defender 110 and 130 were the machines of choice for this application, as they provide a readily adaptable base vehicle. Being Defender based, there were of course many optional extras available, including aluminium protection pack, tyre options, winches, and locker boxes.

As you can see from the pictures, typical applications for the Land Rover based vehicles are electricity grid repairs and grounds maintenance. The Central Network machines were all earthed, so each boom has an earth strap to the next boom, and the boom is earthed to the cabin and chassis, and then an earth spike is provided to clamp to a copper bracket mounted on the rear subframe and the spike is stuck into the ground. Most came with hydraulic power tools couplings at the cage, so hydraulic pruners and chainsaws can be used.
