Range Rover Evoque

Details

Land Rover formally unveiled its new Range Rover Evoque at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

A direct descendant of Land Rover's LRX concept vehicle, the Evoque first appeared on sale from summer 2011, making the new 'baby Range Rover' the smallest and most fuel-efficient SUV ever launched by the British brand to date.

Pop celebrity Victoria Beckham was involved with the evoque, playing a big part in helping to design the interior trim. This is as laden with technology as the larger Range Rovers - including the eight-inch 'dual view' centre screen that plays DVDs and sat-nav simultaneously.

Land Rover says the same grade of trim materials as a larger Range Rover is used here, too. There's also a first for the brand; the Evoque uses Range Rover's first-ever panoramic glass roof.

The Evoque's engine options will include the 2.2-litre turbodiesel, which will be offered in 150hp TD4 and 190hp SD4 four-wheel drive guise. The TD4, claims Land Rover, can average 50mpg and emits 145g/km CO2.

Evoque is offered as a front-wheel drive only version, and a four-wheel drive version. Using a 150hp eD4 engine, Land Rover is claiming 58mpg and sub-130g/km CO2 for the non-4x4 Evoque model. There will be a 2.0-litre Si4 turbo petrol option too, producing 240hp.

Three door and five door models are available, with a three door cabrio concept version on show at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Zara Phillips receives first Range Rover Evoque

Zara Phillips is the first person to take delivery of a new Range Rover Evoque. Ms Phillips drove away the 5-Door Stornoway Grey Evoque from the 2011 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, where she was competing.

Land Rover UK Marketing Director, Laura Schwab, showed Zara around her new car and said: "Zara has been excited about the new Evoque ever since we revealed the first pictures over a year ago and indeed she was one of the very first people to order one.

"We have a huge presence at Burghley this year, with over 60 Land Rover vehicles in action at the event. It therefore seemed fitting that our first Evoque handover took place here."

The Range Rover Evoque officially went on sale in the UK in September 2011. Land Rover has already received over 20,000 pre-orders worldwide, with 6,000 of these in the UK.

Zara was handed the keys to a 5-Door Range Rover Evoque in Stornoway Grey, with a 2.2 litre diesel engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, panoramic sunroof and features including park assist, blind spot monitoring and a surround camera system.
