The Scottorn
6x6 Range Rovers

Scottorn Trailers 6x6 Range Rover.

Seen here before and after a repaint, this was the last Scottorn Trailers 6x6 Range Rover built (number 5), constructed around the time of Scottorn's takeover by Reynolds Boughton.
The car is now in Key Largo, Florida, USA.

The Scottorn Build plates are clearly shown next to the VIN
This machine is based around the Range Rover "commando" 6x6 chassis, and several specialist companies built their own versions of the 6x6 civilian Range Rover.
The vehicle, as you can see (bottom right column picture), now sports metallic green paint.

In December 2006, this vehicle was for sale on eBay in the USA.

Number 4.

Dave Hearnden is the proud owner of Scottorn 6x6 Range Rover number 4.
He gave us some more information on these vehicles:

Only five Scottorn 6x6 Range Rovers were built.
Car numbers 1, 2 & 3 missing, presumed scrapped.
Number 4 belongs to Dave, a standard right hand drive version.
Number 5 is as detailed above probably still in the USA.

Dave's vehicle started life as a standard 2 door Range Rover that was produced about 1979.
Sometime soon after, it was acquired by Scottorn, who was a small company which was a part of Reynolds Boughton.
Scottorn took this standard 4 wheel machine and stretched it between the front and rear seats by adding between 9 to 10 inches.
Then they added a bit more on the back and included a axle that has a drive through middle diff, this gives power to the back axle.

The first three cars drivetrain allowed selection of 6x2, 6x4 or even 6x6, but when number 4 was made, started out as selectable, but was later changed to constant 6x6.
Number 5 is also constant 6x6.
On the dash of number 4 there are still warning lights for 6x4 and 6x6.

Dave's car was used by the MD of Scottorn.
He regularly put the car through its paces to try and sell new vehicles.
Dave himself had this confirmed to him by someone who stopped him at a show.
He told Dave he used to know the car very well, as he used to wash it for the MD after each demo.
